Dear mary,

Last year village organizers have met. They seem quite disturbed by your using of the village concept without their knowledge.

As we explained in july, last year village was made by 100 organizations which had worked for a year according to the following principles :

- respect of the Porto Alegre chart
- the village takes place inside the ESF process (no autonomous space)
- fully democratic process (collective decision making)
- gathering social and solidarity-based economy organizations assembly
- financial and information transparency

Since the solidarity village does not follow these principles, it cannot be the solidarity-based and social economy village for the ESF in London.
French social and solidarity-based economy organizations were shocked by the content of the leaflet the autonomous spaces handed out in Brussels last week-end. Therefore, we had to explain during this meeting why we couldn't support this text. We stated that your initiative was not supported by our organizations and that the solidarity village can not claim the legacy of the 2003 village.

sincerely

Objet:  Update on Solidarity Village

Dear Eve and Julien
I hope all is going well with you both. It was wonderful to meet you
and I am grateful you came to London because with my workload (and no
budget), I don't travel much. I just remembered I want to put the
photo on our website of us standing outside Conway Hall. Things have
been moving very fast with the "ESF process" and I need to write a
short update and circulate it to all the lists.
We are counting on your continued support, and wonder if you have any
advice to give me before I write the update - shall I send you a
draft before posting it?
